Walkin’ Around Checkin’ Stuff Out. #36
Lake Harriet Rose Garden.
The Heffelfinger Fountain at the Lake Harriet Rose Garden is one of the coolest things in the city. I’ve been coming here since I was a little kid. My Grandmother loved roses so we would walk through and grab some smells.
Kingfield PorchFest 2024
PorchFest is a collection of bands playing at different random houses around the neighborhood. How cool is that? People come out in packs, it’s pretty amazing. Supercool to see so many people out walking, biking, drinking and dancing. I kind of want to be the dude in the Hamm’s Beer shirt dancing like no one is watching. (But I know people would be watching, and I know my dancing skills…so it ain’t gonna happen.)
Dice & Rose At Tilia.
Many nights we’ll end up at Tilia for a glass of rose (or 2 or 3) and a couple games of dice. They’ve got a few outdoor benches with a little table built in that holds the dice board perfectly. Oh, and a lot of dogs usually walk by so I like that, too.
Romayne’s Bar.
Taylors Falls, MN
Up the street from the Frostop Drive-in (see last weeks post) is Romayne’s Bar, a great little main street dive bar that has a pretty cool patio that opens in the summer and they grill burgers out of this little shed. You can have your Michelin Stars, I’m eating burgers out of a shed.
Poots Tavern.
Winona, MN
I’ve been thinking a lot about getting out to some small towns to play dice in dive bars. It is definitely time for a roadtrip. I love a good old fashioned dive bar. I bet generations of people from Winona have gone through that door…some may even remember leaving.
Big Dog.
I live hanging out at coffee shops. The buzz of a neighborhood is great and I’ve met some interesting people, but mostly it’s because I like seeing all the dogs. This dude was huge. The owners said the vet told them he needed to lose 40LBS. So he needs to lose two regular dogs and he’ll still be huge.
Wine Label.
I like dogs…and I like wine, so it makes sense I was excited to work on this dog art for an upcoming wine label. I did two versions because they wanted simpler dogs…I still prefer the original, but maybe the simpler one will work better on a bottle.
