Walkin’ Around Checkin’ Stuff Out. #19
Thanks for coming along for the ride. The world is nuts…have you noticed? The news and social media are full of negative crap or 5 seconds snippets of desperate attention-starved people dancing. The good stuff doesn’t seem to get “likes” or top headline billing, but it’s out there. I’m waiting for the day when the news and social media is mostly positive because people tire of the negative crap. Not likely anytime soon, but I’ll do my part…out there walkin’ around checkin’ stuff out and lookin’ for the good stuff.
Dogs Are The Best.
Sweater weather. Minneapolis, MN
We have had a crazy-mild winter, but we finally go a little weather last week and the temps dropped to the point where this guy had to bust out the sweater.
He was lookin’ good and he knew it. That face says it all.
Dog walker. Minneapolis, MN
It was a cold and windy day around the lake. The owner wasn’t too keen on being out there, but his dog couldn’t have been happier. And we all know we’ll do anything to make our dogs happy.
Special Delivery.
Minneapolis, MN
There is a letter carrier in our neighborhood that always has treats for the dogs. She lights-up when she sees a dog and can’t wait to offer a biscuit.
Needless to say, Davis has a new best friend and is now excited to see every mail truck, even if she isn’t driving.
Olio.
Olio. Bayport, MN.
I’ve been hearing a lot about this new joint in Bayport. Bayport is a great little town close to Stillwater that’s had a few good restaurants through the years.
The space is small, cozy and well designed. Reservations are hard to come by but the bar seating is first-come, first-serve.
Always sit at the bar. It’s got the best views and you’re more likely to meet and talk to people…I know, we’re all Minnesotans…it’s doesn’t happen often. But when it does, it proves the importance of restaurants and bars for people to hang out and get a sense of community in a world where it’s all too easy to live in our little bubbles.
Vale Typewriter.
Vale Typewriter. Richfield, MN
You aren’t gonna see many typewriter repair places these days…and sadly, you won’t be seeing this one much longer as it’s one of two remaining in the cities and it is closing.
It’s a drag to see places like this disappear. I feel like I spend much my life chasing places from the past that won’t be around much longer…recording what I can, while they still exist.
I hear Tom Hanks (a well known typewriter fanatic) sent Vale a typewriter and a personal note thanking them for helping to keep typewriters alive.
Rosalia Pizza.
Rosalia Pizza. Minneapolis, MN
We have a ton of great pizza places in this city…Good Times and Pizza Bigga are two of our favorites…but let’s not forget Boludo, Young Joni, Mario’s, Red Wagon, Black Sheep and of course Rosalia.
Rosalia has a great buzz to it. We always sit at the tiny bar next to where they make the pizza. Great views, and the heat from the pizza oven keeps you warm on a cold night.
Tree House.
Minneapolis, MN
I like it when cool people ask me to draw cool stuff. In this case it was a house I’ve seen for years. I’ve always called it The Tree House because it has a tree coming out of the house…literally. There is a tree growing out through the roof of the screened-in porch. How cool is that?
