Walkin’ Around Checkin’ Stuff Out. #21
This thing called “winter” continues. Looks like we’re going to get out of this one without much damage. Convertible tops are down, motorcycles are out, and people are hanging around the lake playing guitars and stuff…it’s crazy.
Quittin’ Time.
I saw this dude walking out of the liquor store that was pretty much in the parking lot of the post office. He had a case of Hamm’s Beer and a really happy look on his face, like he was winning life…and he wasn’t wrong.
Dogs & Balls.
Not sure there’s anything happier (or cuter) than a dog with a ball. It’s the best.
Selby & Snelling.
I did some shop drawings for a magazine…this is one of my favorites. I love this spot on Selby avenue…lots of cool little shops to check out.
This is February?
You don’t have to be from Minnesota to know that 60 degrees and no snow in February doesn’t make any sense, but here we are.
Minnesotan’s will make the most out of good weather. The lake is still frozen, but people are in t-shirts, convertible tops are down and motorcycles are out.
I saw this couple on lawn chairs reading and playing guitar. That’s making the most out of a warm February.
Old Jeep.
I guess we did get some snow a little over a week ago….although it was gone in a couple days.
I’ve always admired this cool old Jeep parked in the lot of an auto repair shop in Linden Hills. Bummed to see it wasn’t working…seems like the kind of thing an auto repair shop would keep running to prove their worth: “If we can keep this sucker running, we can fix anything!”
Carmelo’s Spaghetti Room.
There’s a lot of new fancy hip restaurants in town, but I get tired of a lot of that stuff. Sometimes I want a place that’s simple. So we decided to go old school and check out Carmelo’s Spaghetti Room. How can you not want to try a place called “Spaghetti room”?
Carmelo’s isn’t trying to be old school…they just are. From the decor (check out that wallpaper!) to the bread basket and dinner salad (FREE! That would run you at least $20 at any of the new fancy spots).
The mix of crowd was everything from families, to couples on their 1st date, to couples on their 8000th date.
Was the food as good as the new fancy spots? Probably not, but in some cases…maybe. It certainly was comfortable, we could get a table on a Saturday night, and they weren’t shy about pouring a deep glass of wine.
The kid sitting next to us cracked me up…he was super nervous. So much so that when his date went to the bathroom he had to lean back, take a deep breath, and try to compose himself. That was entertaining.
Shortwave Coffee.
I love neighborhood coffee shops where all types of people hang out…old, young, people studying…working…on dates.
We hit this joint because we can bring Davis and they have a couple tables out front in the sun where we can watch all the people come a go by and Davis can get a bunch of attention.
