Spring weather is in full gear in Minnesota so that means people are out soaking up the sun like crazy. No one knows how to relish a good weather day like a Minnesotan, even if that means wearing far too few clothes and exposing the world to pasty white skin.
Construction Season.
We can’t have nice weather without some serious war zone-like construction.
I don’t know who’s in the warning light business, but business is good. It seems every neighborhood in Minneapolis is being invaded by some sort of waterline maintenance or something….and signs…lots of signs.
Boat Check.
There’s always someone at the Lake Harriet boat launch checkpoint. Either college students or retirees. If the weather is good that would be a pretty good gig.
This guy was awesome and had a great view of all the people walking around the lake on a perfect day. If I were him I’d set up some dominoes and see if anybody would want to play.
Oldsters at the Lake.
Not exactly a gang, but there was a sizable showing of the AARP crowd at the Lake Harriet Bandshell on a perfect spring day.
Walking sticks, lunch bags and New Balance sneakers were trending big time.
Good Weather. Bad Decisions.
Better weather = less clothing. I guess you gotta take the bad with the good. But this dude had no shame in his game.
Why Be Inside, When You Can Be Outside?
Even the salon down the street got in on the good weather and set up a chair for a woman to sit while her hair was colored. Reading a book in the sun with a smile on her face summed up a perfect Minnesota spring day.
Hill Boarders.
There’s a pretty decent hill leading down to the lake where I see skateboards ride down from time to time.
Reminds me of the time I bombed a hill on a skateboard as a teenager and hit a rock. No helmet, no pads. Yeah, that hurt.
This kid was much more equipped for the task and had some skills, too.
Oldster Walker.
The oldsters sure do like the New Balance sneakers. Comfort shoe of choice in my informal survey around Lake Harriet.
He really should check his screen time. Shouldn’t he have some binoculars out looking for birds or something?
Studio Visit.
Summit Avenue. St. Paul, MN.
Bill Phelps invited me over to his studio for lunch. The studio is on the top floor of an old mansion on Summit Avenue in St. Paul…very cool space, and not a bad way to spend an afternoon.
