Having recently wrapped the Lyndale Avenue Checklist, Heavy Table decided to release the Checklist outside the paywall in a monster 5 part series you can read here.
We’re already planning our next adventure, a revisit to Central Avenue (the first Checklist we did 10 years ago) to see what’s new. The way the restaurant world works I’m sure we’ll hit locations that have been 2 or 3 other restaurants since our last visit.
Sadly, we’ve probably lost a bunch of really good spots that just couldn’t make a go of it.
It was always the point of the Checklist to find and try new places and support the “little guy” and hope others do as well.
I always figured I was driving by a dozen great restaurants to get to the one I knew was good, and I was right.
The Checklist list has taken us (forced us to go) to restaurants we didn’t even know existed, and if we knew they existed we wouldn’t go in, and if we went in, we wouldn’t order Sometimes those are the best spots, the true gems.
So in the spirit of the Checklist (and supporting the little guy), get out there and try a restaurant you might not normally try. You might find an incredible little spot with killer food, or meet the family running the place and hear their story, or try a food you’ve never heard of. Even if it doesn’t go well, you’ll have an interesting story.
Here’s some more drawings from the Lyndale Avenue Checklist. Be sure to check out the whole 5 part beast over at the Heavy Table…where you can read the food reviews, see photos of the food and read atmospheric write ups.
Top 5 recommendations from the places below:
1- Dosa. An absolute must-visit. The floors are sticky, but the food is fantastic.
2- Luna Di Luna. Family run Italian with great food and the interior decorations are trippy and fantastic.
3- Aroma Indian Grill. Another great Indian spot.
4- Prima has been around long enough now that it’s become a classic neighborhood spot, and the food was surprisingly good.
5- Mac’s Fish & Chips. If you like fish & chips, you gotta hit Mac’s.
*Note: We’ve agreed to stop going to “all-you-can-eat” buffets on future Checklists. Mainly for our well-being, and there really is no winning in that category of food.
So many great spots- you captured them perfectly!
