Halloween and snow was the theme of the week. Snow before Halloween is early even by Minnesota standards and I still haven’t put the motorcycles away for the season because I always hope for a warm November to extend the riding season (cue the laughter).
Bulldog Halloween Party.
If you ever have the chance to go to a Bulldog Halloween party, do it.
Is there anything funnier than funny looking dogs dressed up to look even more ridiculous?
The bulldog fish (complete with bubbles) got a lot of attention, and he was not having any of it.
My personal favorite was the hot dog, dog with mustard and ketchup owners.
Some dogs were into it…and some were not.
Davis won “sexiest costume”…I think it was because he started taking off his outfit in front of the group of all female judges.
Some other highlights from the costume contest…bulldog as a banana, bulldog as a peacock, and my personal favorite: bulldog as a bull.
Lamp Shop.
Michael’s Lamp Studio. Minneapolis, MN
I love businesses that feel like a throwback. A lamp shop is something you’d expect to see on the main street of Mayberry, not modern day Minneapolis.
You don’t see many places that specialize in one thing anymore. These days we buy lamps and when they quit working or we get sick of them, we throw them out.
I like that Michael went with “studio” vs. “shop” in the name. Studio means business. It says if you need anything to do with lamps, this is your place.
Sharing A Bus Stop Bench…
…with snow.
Here we go…many cold, dark snowy days ahead. I actually like winter, but getting used to it takes some time. Wasn’t it just 95 degrees a few weeks ago?
Industrial Building.
I love stark environments. Places made for humans that seemingly don’t have any humans around. Industrial areas are good for finding stark environments, and oddly so are small towns. Not sure what that’s all about, but it’s a good topic over a beer sometime.
Old Book Stores.
I read a lot of books on my phone or ipad, but I do love bookstores. I love the smell. The hunt. The crazy piles and stacks of books, especially in a used bookstore.
My favorite spot is Paperback Exchange. Located between a coffee shop and a bar, I have to wonder if there’s a better block anywhere in the city?
I ended up with an old paperback that still had the original B. Dalton Bookstore price tag on the cover. I haven’t seen a B. Dalton price tag since I was a kid, but recognized it instantly. The look of it…the color, the font…it was crazy. I was immediately brought back to being a kid when we would stop at B. Dalton pretty much once a week to go book shopping.
Paperback Exchange. Minneapolis, MN
Sparrow cafe, Paperback Exchange and Terzo. Coffee, books and booze.
4-Framer:
It’s been that kind of week.
