The Minnesota State Fair is in full swing…I’ve been 4 times, hoping to get out one last time before it closes down tomorrow. I’ve done a ton of fair drawings over the years and I still feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface. Even if I did 100 drawings of the fair this year how could it ever capture the insane amount of stuff that is the Minnesota State Fair? I guess it never could, and I never will. But I’ll keep trying.
Minnesota State Fair.
Looks like a date night for two different couples that have probably been coming to The Lunch Box for decades. (I kind of think they should meet.)
More State Fair people because people watching is my #1 thing to do at the fair while I eat and drink.
Some people need assistance getting around the fair, and some do not. It can hard to tell the ones in need vs. the ones that can’t be bothered to burn a few extra calories walking from one deep fried thing on a stick to another.
Not an influencer. Not seen on social media. And ten times more interesting.
150,000 people a day go to the Minnesota State Fair. That’s a whole lot of people I could draw.
No long lines at The Lunch Box. Another reason to support the classic places that have been at the fair for decades.
This woman did at least 2 things wrong; she put ketchup on a corn dog, and she had a Pronto-Pup instead of a Poncho-Dog. A lot of people make the same mistakes so I guess I’ll let it slide.
It’s not a trip to the fair without a stop at the Corn Roast. I’m a naked guy…no butter, no salt, no pepper. With corn that good it doesn’t need anything else. Except maybe a toothpick.
Bucheron.
(See, it’s not all state fair stuff this week.) I don’t usually draw restaurants I haven’t been to, but I couldn’t pass this one up. What a great location and building. Now I have to go, even though I don’t understand a damn thing on the menu.
Badass Eagle.
A giant eagle was perched on a low-hanging branch eyeballing all the people stopping to take pictures. He looked hungry. I told a woman to keep an eye on her little dog or it could be dinner.
Mel!
I love when a friend gets a new puppy and I get to see all the cute puppy pictures and hear all the cute puppy stories without having to clean up all the not-so-cute puppy poop and pee.
I love the State Fair posts and drawings. Normally, I go several times but this year was limited to a very short visit this morning. I had a photo in the Fine Arts bldg and wanted to see it in all its glory. Who knows when or if that will happen again. Mornings are always the best anyway - relatively clean, uncrowded and tons of stuff going on. Not too hot. Plus great light.
My wife and I just ate breakfast at the Lunch Box this morning. We tried to stop by the Hamline Church place but the line was insane. At the Lunch Box, just plop down at the counter and get served. The pancakes and sausage were delish. Coffee, not so much.
For the first time in my life I had to be one of those people in a mobility scooter. Normally, I could walk the fair til close, but not this year. Without the scooter the fair would have been impossible. I agree, it's hard to tell those in need from those in not. Sadly, walking from the car to the fair, doing the fair and then walking back to the car or bus is out of reach for many. For me, the short walk to the scooter rental required a couple breaks. Just a temporary setback.
Thanks for the drawings.
