Surdyk’s Liquor, Cheese, Deli, Bar, Restaurant…etc…
Surdyk’s has been around for over 90 years. Not many businesses can say that, making it as iconic as it gets in Minneapolis.
With one of the first liquor licenses granted after prohibition Surdyk’s has been in the game a long time and they know what they’re doing. Starting as a liquor store, evolving to a discount liquor store, adding a fancy cheese shop and deli, and most recently a bar/restaurant, they know how to show the other guys what a liquor store can be.
If you need an interesting cheese, they’ve got it, and they’ve got a cheesemonger that can tell you all about it. It’s like they can cut the cheese in 30 different languages.
The addition of a bar and restaurant to Surdyk’s was pretty sweet. They’ve been selling booze for over 90 years so it makes sense they’d be the ones you’d trust to make your drink.
Sweet Rides.
Hard to believe summer is almost over. The weather has been great so I’ve seen a lot of cool cars around the lakes. This old Ford Galaxy had a great paint job…love the red with baby blue top. When I was a kid I had a toy car that was exact model and paint scheme. Wish I still had that toy.
Not sure what kind of car this is…small and British, that’s all I know. And it looks like a lot of fun.
Convertible cruise…or maybe I should say ‘confident convertible cruise’…because this dude had the look like he wasn’t worried about that old British car breaking down. As someone who knows nothing about fixing cars, I’d be panicked the whole time.
I was at a gas station and saw a sweet dude smoking and filling this thing up with 100 gallons of the good stuff. That is a bad-ass ride. The Riviera’s were always interesting cars that looked different from the others. I talked to the dude for a bit before he tore off with a wave, blowing gas out the tailpipe like it was still $.32 a gallon.
It’s not always the car that’s cool…sometimes it’s the driver. Sitting at the coffee shop on a Saturday morning I noticed this dude driving a minivan, lookin’ smooth. He had a great look…the hat, the glasses, tie, jacket…the whole deal. He should have been driving a cool old vintage car.
State Fair Rollers. Ok…not really a cool car, but kind of…it is transportation. Need some curb feelers and fuzzy dice on those things.
Street Musicians.
I love a good street musician, especially when they are actually good players. This guy was laying down some pretty sweet sounds with style to match. Love the hat.
Fiddle or violin? And what really is the difference? They look the same. I guess it’s just what you play and how you play it? I should have asked this guy, but he was busy and I didn’t want to bother him. I will say a violin sounds like it would be way more expensive than a fiddle.
Cellphone Couple.
I’m not an anti-screentime guy. Screens are a way of life and how we live these days…but this was a beautiful night around the lake and these two were sitting together on a bench as the sun was setting…not sure what was on their screens, but it couldn’t have been that good.
Oh the Riv! My dad got himself one after us kids were out of the house and he thoroughly enjoyed that car!
Man...fantastic post!
