The updates continue and so does the surprisingly great food. It makes doing these outings really difficult when the food is so good we can’t stop eating.
Hodan Cuisine.
On our last trip down Central whatever was in this space was never open so it was nice to see something happening. The goat rice poster next to the hamburger poster sent mixed signals so we entered with pretty low expectations.
The owner came right up to greet us (always a good sign)...he was very excited to serve us food and equally excited about the original art on his walls. When we asked the name of the artist he said: “I don’t know, somebody.” shrugging his shoulders.
I love it when a restaurant owner delivers food to the table with a look of pride and excitement. In this case it was a giant “sport plate” consisting of spicy spaghetti, rice, and 4 or 5 different types of meat and fish. The 5 of us could have made a meal of it and walked out full. With 4 more places to visit we had to stop eating.
Charrito Lindo Taqueria.
This place was pretty empty on a Friday night, but we’ve learned that’s never an indication of the food. In this case it’s probably because it’s right next to another very popular Mexican spot....and we found out many of those customers should probably skip the line and come here.
No waiting and the food was great. Proof you almost can’t go wrong on Central...unless you get the fajitas...they tasted great, but they stink up the whole joint and my clothes smell like fajitas for 3 days.
No line and the dude was ready to take our order and make the food.
Barroco Latin Cuisine.
On our last trip down Central I remember being very underwhelmed by the place that was in this space. The interior looked exactly the same so I didn’t have high hopes for the food. But, damn if Central doesn’t deliver yet again. The place was great and managed to shake the ghost of mediocre food past.
The space still isn’t great, with a full bar and DJ disco booth ready to fire up at any moment you’d think the place would have a little more life to it.
Our server wasn’t the owner, but he still seemed pretty excited to bring us the food, and he wasn’t wrong...damn, it was pretty good. By this point in the night we were beyond stuffed. Only two more places to go.
Dutch Bar.
God I love this place. That is all.
I love this place so much. The space is great, the vibe is great, the food is great and it reminds me of the old New French Bar. It’s pretty great.
Great drinks, great food, great music...and they serve a Sloppy joe sandwich. Hell, yeah.
Hadn't heard of Dutch Bar. Will have to check that out with the wife.
