We’ve just wrapped up our update to the Central Avenue Checklist with Heavy Table. There’s no better food blog around, they are worth a follow…plus you get to read the full food reviews from the places we went, see photos of the food and read great atmospheric write-ups of what we saw along the way. Great stuff.
Cosmic Coffee.
I’ve lost count at how many things this cool spot has been over the years...some of them were actually really good.
Cosmic was giving off some strong hippie/Grateful Dead vibes. They maybe should have followed that theme through with drink names like “Bad-Trip latte”, but they didn’t...it is kind of a family hangout.
The dude working was a little flustered so I’m not sure how glad he was to have us there.
Hermanos Locos Tacos.
Tacos in a gas station? Sign me up! It’s the best damn gas station food you’ll find anywhere. Beats the heck out of a frozen microwave burrito, (but they have those too).
It’s a great place to get tacos if you need other stuff like gas, lottery tickets and pipes and bongs.
Got a great display of yoyo tricks while we waited for our tacos.
Pilllar Forum Coffee.
Punk rock coffee, skateboard shop and music venue. I would have lived here as a kid.
Pilllar is a punk rock coffee shop with some pretty stiff rules like “Don’t go under the rope”. I totally would have gone under that rope.
I think there’s a beanie dress code.
Corner Coffee.
Kind of odd that this is right across the street from Pilllar Forum, but I think this place is a front for a church so they may be trying to convert skate punks.
I guess a trendy/Instagram-ready coffee shop would be a good way for a church to recruit if that’s really what they are doing. For the record, no one tried to convert me, they know a lost cause when they see one.
Plants seem to be kind of trendy these days and I’m ok with it...especially in the winter when I need all the green living things I can get.
Peace Market.
We didn’t actually get to eat here, but we tried at least 3 times. It looked interesting, so I would tell anyone to give it a shot if they find themselves there and they’re actually serving food. Let us know how it is.
We stopped in but the guy in the kitchen said they weren’t ready to serve food yet...”Come back in one hour.” So we did...there was more action in the kitchen with grandma working the stove, but they still weren’t ready to serve food and the guy had no idea when they would be ready. We gave it a shot but we didn’t have all day. It sure looks interesting.
Gas, lottery tickets, pipes, bongs, yo yo's and tacos??? Forget church...let's go right to heaven!
if you want to head out to Roseville, here's a coffee shop that is, pretty literally, a front for a church. They'll let you skateboard, too. Got invited here a couple weeks ago for a work meeting. The coffee was good, wifi strong and "churchy" vibes not completely offputting. https://www.happymonday.company/
