Walkin' Around Checkin' Stuff Out. #89.
Dice & Oysters.
The bar at Saint Genevieve has always been one of the best dice bars in town...but now that oysters are on Happy Hour...lookout, we might be there everyday. (For those keeping score, we each won a game but I still picked-up the tab.)
Saint Genevieve (Happy Hour).
Restaurants still aren’t back to normal after Covid. They aren’t open as late, they’re way more expensive and I’m just now starting to see Happy Hour come back at some places. Saint Genevieve started Happy Hour a few weeks back and now people are at the door waiting for them to open. What’s better than sitting at the bar on a hot summer afternoon downing bubbles and a dozen oysters? The vibes are good...real good.
Judge Me.
I put ice in my rose.
There...I said it. Sue me. I get the looks from bartenders and servers that think I’m nuts. So what if I like my wine to be more like a Coors light?
Vintage Triumph.
My buddy Bill rolled-up in his vintage Triumph. It’s a work of art. Show me your best car and this thing will make it ugly. People gather around and stare and some people even ask if they can sit in it for a picture. Bill agrees and even sometimes takes the photo. (I wonder if they know one of the best photographers around just took their photo?)
Heather’s Flowers.
If a place puts this much effort into the flowers, imagine what they’ll do with the food. It’s nice to see a place care about the details like that.
Heather’s Food.
When the food looks like the flowers. Summer at Heather’s is the best...it’s like eating a garden on a plate. It looks so good I almost hate to eat it. Almost.
You can’t eat flowers (or maybe you can). Every dressing I’ve had at Heather’s could make anything taste good so I guess I’d give it a shot.
Sea Salt Eatery.
Best seafood (and people watching) in town. Hard to beat a summer day down by the falls, a carafe of rose (with ice), a catfish po-boy and a couple hours of people-watching.
Smokin’ Caddy.
Literally smokin’. Dude rolled-up to the stop sign lookin’ smooth in this mid 80’s couch on wheels, hit the gas and must have dumped 5 gallons out the tailpipe. I think I could have driven my car off the fumes that thing was putting out.
Alma Provisions.
I know I sound like a nerd when I talk about the importance of “community”, but that shit is real and coffee shops are a big part of where that happens. I know so many people from seeing them at coffee shops and getting to know them. I get way more than just a caffeine buzz hanging at these joints.
