Bookstores Are Cool.
I miss bookstores. I’m guilty of reading books on my phone, but I still love walking the aisles of a bookstore and wondering what I’ll find. I love technology, but we lose something when places like bookstores go away. I hope there’s a way both can survive because as much as I like my phone, shopping for books on it sucks. And the smell…the smell of bookstores is so good. New bookstores have a totally different smell from old bookstores and I love both.
Cool Old Couple.
“She’s how old?!?!”
We went to Sunday jazz at Alexis Bailly Vineyard and met this amazing woman. She was so friendly and so alive with energy and spunk. Turns out she’s 96 years old. Wow! I guess the secret to life is spending all day lounging in a vineyard drinking wine. That’s a gig I’ll sign-up for.
“He’s how old?!?!”
The spunky 96 year old woman we met at Alexis Bailly Vineyard had a partner in crime and he was also 96 years old and had just about as much spunk and fire as she did. He was wearing a shirt that said: “Equality hurts no one.” Cool dude for sure. They were at the vineyard with family but these two drove themselves...I watched them tear-off down the road when they left. At that age you might as well fill up the cupholders with a couple extra glasses of wine for the road.
An Interesting Couple.
Kind of the exact opposite of the cute old 96 year old couple at the vineyard. We saw them at the Minneapolis Farmers Market and I’m still trying to figure out what was happening here. The woman was dialed-up like it was Friday night on a cruise ship... big hair, loud clothes, touching up her neon lipstick while her wheelchair-bound husband(?) in mirrored wraparound gas station shades sucked the life out of a cigarette in one pull. I mean...WOW. These two were livin’ hard.
Minneapolis Farmers Market.
Crepes at the farmers market. Why buy healthy vegetables at the farmers market when you get crazy giant crepes loaded with butter, cheese and meat? These were the opposite of light, airy French crepes, but that didn’t stop us from stuffing our face with them (and regretting it the rest of the day).
After stuffing our faces with rich crepes we did attempt to walk them off by looking at all the vegetables. They looked amazing. We thought about buying some out of pure guilt, but ended up getting a couple brats instead. We go to the farmers market for all the wrong reasons.
Avocado Toast.
Having lunch at a trendy coffee shop and I spotted this dude making love to a piece of avocado toast. That must be the best avocado toast in the world because this guy was going to town on it...I felt a little embarrassed by the whole thing...like I was a voyeur watching something that I shouldn’t. All I know is next time I’m ordering that damn avocado toast.
Walking In Style.
Years ago I used to see an old Italian dude run around the lake in regular clothes...long pants (no matter how hot it was) and a long sleeve button-up shirt. I haven’t seen him in a while, but this dude had a similar vibe, although it looked like he cut his pants down to capri length...(very stylish move), paired with the long sleeve button-up shirt, pocket protector, notebook, and pen set-up.
Missed Connection.
We were sitting outside at our usual weekend coffeeshop hangout with our bulldog Davis when this pickup truck pulled-up with a female poodle in the backseat checking Davis out. It kind of had a love at first sight vibe to it if you ask me. But the light turned green and they took off so we’ll never know.
